1. Introduction
In an environment where many academies focus on short-term entertainment and quick results, GRIT SC was born with a different mission: to develop players with character, discipline, and excellence—core pillars for competing and growing both on and off the field.
We are a youth soccer academy based in Kissimmee (Poinciana), Florida, launching our journey in Central Florida’s grassroots soccer landscape. But we do so with a unique vision: we don’t see soccer as a mere hobby, but as an opportunity to shape individuals with values and purpose.
2. What is GRIT?
The concept of grit was introduced by University of Pennsylvania psychologist Angela Duckworth in her book Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance (2016).
According to Duckworth:
“Grit is passion and sustained persistence applied toward long-term achievement, with no particular concern for rewards or recognition along the way.”

3. Our Motto: “VINCIT QUI SE VINCIT”
“He conquers who conquers himself” is not just a motto—it’s a core principle.
This phrase comes from classical Latin: Vincit qui se vincit, used by moralists such as Publilius Syrus in the 1st century BC, and later adopted by Stoic and Christian thinkers.
Its fuller form, Bis vincit qui se vincit in victoria, means:
“He who conquers himself in victory, conquers twice.”
The message is clear: true triumph begins with self-mastery.
Overcoming fear, anxiety, euphoria, or frustration is just as important as scoring goals.
At GRIT SC, we teach our players that self-control, discipline, and character are trainable skills—just like passing or shooting.
